WebTrichophyton species (usually T. mentagrophytes) is an opportunistic fungal disease of mammals. “Ringworm” has been isolated from rodents, lagomorphs, sugar gliders, ferrets, hedgehogs, and marsupials. Affected animals may be asymptomatic or have focal to multifocal alopecia. WebDermatophytes are common pathogens of skin but rarely cause invasive disease. We present a case of deep infection by Trichophyton rubrumin an immunocompromised patient. T. rubrumwas identified by morphological characteristics and confirmed by PCR. Invasiveness was apparent by histopathology and immunohistochemistry.
